Christmas of 2018, my mom gifted me with a bottle of Thieves from Young Living. I didn’t think much of it at first. A friend of mine from work uses Young Living products, and while I thought what she did with them was interesting, I hadn’t used them myself. I was interested to try it out, but honestly, wasn’t super enthused.
Then I started to look up Thieves and how to use it. The story behind it is FASCINATING. It has origins tied back to the bubonic plague where thieves would arm themselves with the ingredients in the Thieves oil – lemon, clove, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary oils – to ward off getting sick themselves as they stole things from the dead and dying. Depressing, I know, but they didn’t catch the plague.
So I started diffusing Thieves around my home. Then I started diffusing it at school. Especially on those days where I wasn’t feeling my best – a little sore throat, super tired, stuffy nose – you know those days. In this Covid-19 pandemic world, I wouldn’t be able to go to work feeling like that, but before March of 2020, co-workers usually knew if my sinuses started bothering me because I was diffusing Thieves in my office.
I think it was in February of 2019 that I signed up as a distributor for Young Living purely to get the discount to purchase Thieves. But then I started trying other products as well. And now I’ve been hooked.
Within the first weeks of the 2019-2020 school year, I started with a sinus infection that pretty much lasted until a little after Christmas. I was miserable. I had been on at least three different rounds of antibiotics and felt like I was always taking Sudafed or Mucinex to help with this, that, and every sort of gross thing that goes along with sinus infections and allergy flare ups.
I’m the type of person that HATES taking medicine routinely. So adding all of these “stupid” allergy pills and medicines into my daily life was making me irritable.
I think I’ve talked more about my allergies and sinuses in the last year and a half than I have my whole life. (To everyone in my life I’ve talked to about this, I am so sorry. I truly dislike that this was my life.)
All this to say, I started trying to find cleaner and easier things to add into my life to keep me healthy. Young Living has more than enough products to help me with that.
But it all started with Thieves. I probably diffuse Thieves in my office at school at least twice a week. Although, now, I’ve added in a rotation of Eucalyptus and Peppermint, and another awesome mix that the Principal has dubbed the “good smell” with Valor and Bergamont.
I started rubbing Thieves on my feet before I put on my socks in the morning to help keep my immunity up. Honestly, I’m not super sure if it’s working, but *fingers crossed and knocking on wood* I haven’t gotten a sinus infection yet this year.
This could also be because I started seeing an ENT over the summer, and he switched up my allergy meds. But I’m going to give a lot of credit to Thieves as well. 2020 was a tough year. And I LITERALLY WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO MY JOB this past Fall if I was as miserable as I was last year. I wouldn’t have been allowed in the building.
So Thieves was my “gateway drug” to using essential oils. But I’m glad I started with Young Living, because I’ve seen some noticeable differences in my life since I’ve started using essential oils.
If you’re at all interested in essential oils, let me know! I’m still learning as I’m going, but I’ve seen little changes in how my body works – acne, immunity, among other things – which makes me want to continue using them.
If you want to take the plunge into Young Living Essential Oils, I’d definitely suggest purchasing a Premium Starter Kit to become a distributor. You literally don’t have to even sell oils to anyone. You can just purchase them yourself. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing so far. Mostly getting oils for myself. Occasionally getting a few oils for friends.
You can purchase a Premium Starter Kit here. You can select different kits, but I suggest the Premium Starter Kit for sure. I have the Desert Mist Diffuser, and I love it. There’s also options for a Thieves Starter Kit, which includes all sorts of Thieves products, a CBD Starter Kit, and more.
You can choose to enroll in Essential Rewards (ER), which is a monthly reward program. You have to purchase 50 PV of products each month, which is roughly $50, but there are so many different types of products to add, I’m always able to get there. You’ll get points back in ER to be able to get products for free with those points later.
I’d suggest getting the Thieves Household Cleaner. It’s SUPER concentrated, so you put one capful in a 16 oz glass bottle with water and you’re all set to clean EVERYTHING. Of course, there’s ways to clean specific things, but I can reach for this bottle for every day things and not have to worry about chemicals getting into anything.
Thieves Essential Oil changed my life. Maybe it’ll change yours?
